My role
Head of Design / Senior Designer
Fana Sparebank is a local Norwegian bank built on close relationships and personal advisory. They describe themselves as a “cairn” (in Norwegian: steinvarde) — a guide that helps people make financial decisions and feel secure. The new identity clarified this idea. The website needed to do the same. The problem wasn’t the story. No one could see it in the product.
My role
Defined the digital direction and structure of the website
Worked closely with Fana Sparebank’s leadership, the strategic team at Good Morning, and developer Håkon Roald
Led the design, translating strategy into a functional product
The problem
The previous website didn’t reflect how the bank actually works.
It felt generic and product-driven. It focused on listing services instead of helping people make decisions.
It didn’t communicate guidance.
And it didn’t reflect the closeness the bank has with its customers.
Insight
Fana Sparebank acts as a guide.
The product should do the same.
Not by explaining more.
By structuring decisions.

Reframing
We redesigned the website to improve how it looked.
But more importantly, we made it work like the bank does — guiding people toward better decisions.

System Design
The system is built around one principle:
Make decisions easier.
That meant moving away from product lists and toward guided understanding.
Structure was simplified. Choices were reduced. Content was organized around what people are trying to do — not how the bank is structured.
Everything points forward.

Guided Decisions
We turned savings into a flow.
Instead of showing everything at once, the site guides you step by step:
how much you save, what you have, how long, and how much risk you are comfortable with.
Each step builds on the last.
You don’t have to figure it out.
The product does it with you.

From System to Product
The identity became functional:
Motion creates direction
Typography creates hierarchy
Color guides attention
Icons add a human layer
Imagery builds trust
At the same time, the content became critical.
All product pages were written by the strategic team at Good Morning to feel more personal, clear, and direct.
This turned the experience from information-heavy to guidance-driven.

Solution
The website is structured around intent.
Instead of presenting everything, it creates clear paths and reduces complexity.
Navigation is simplified. Pages are focused. Content supports decisions — not just information.
Nothing competes.
Everything guides.
Collaboration
The work was developed in close collaboration a inhouse developer at Fana Sparebank.
He was involved early in shaping the structure and architecture, and implemented the solution himself on EpiServer.
Design, logic, and development were aligned from the start.
Decisions were made together.
User Experience
Before, you had to figure it out yourself.
After, the product helps you move forward.
The experience is:
Clear
Calm
Personal

Impact
The website now reflects how the bank actually works.
Structure is easier to navigate
Decisions are easier to make
Content feels more personal
The brand is consistent across touchpoints
The website is no longer a catalog.
It’s a tool for guidance.

Real Estate Platform
We also designed Fana Sparebank Eiendom — the bank’s real estate portal.
Buying a home is complex.
We simplified it.
Clear listings, structured information, and focused property pages make it easier to understand options and move forward.
It connects directly with the bank’s services.
Not a separate product.
Part of the same system.

Calculators
The calculators are designed to move people forward.
They turn abstract questions into concrete answers:
what you can afford, what it costs, what your options are.
This reduces uncertainty and makes the next step clear.
Not just tools.
A step toward becoming a customer.

Icons
The icons have a clear role in the interface.
They guide users through choices, support navigation, and make information easier to scan.
The handcrafted style makes them feel human.
But their purpose is functional.
They help people understand faster.
